Players start with two cards and can take one of these actions:
Hit; when a player asks for another card
Stand; a player cannot pick additional cards. They hold the total and end their turn
Double down; a player may increase the original bet by 100% and promise to stand when they receive an additional card
Split; when the first two cards at hand bear the same value. The player splits them into two hands
A fifth option (surrender) is available in some cases. Here, the player gives up their hand after the initial bet if the chances of winning are too little. They get to keep 50% of the original bet instead of playing to lose the entire bet. Other rules for Perfect Blackjack include:
No taking of insurance/even money
Where there is no room for splitting, e.g., 5s and 10s, the hand is regarded as a hard total
A limitation on re-splitting makes the hand a hard total except for aces
The penalty for using the wrong strategy is 2.3 times bigger than taking a stand on soft 17
